Basic Facts- Be a Champion

The 36 Facts – A Personal Challenge

Being able to recall your timetables is an essential skill in life. Knowledge of the 36 facts will help you better understand all areas of maths. It is expected that when you start at Intermediate School you will be able to recall all 36 facts with speed and accuracy.

For homework each week you need to learn to learn the “36 Facts”.

There will be a test each Friday of all 36 facts. The results will be recorded.

Students who obtain 100% for three weeks in a row will be entered into the Room Five 36 Facts Champions “Wall of Fame”. Who will be the first person in our class?

Work hard and may the Force be with you! ----Mr M

Homework Policy in Room Five

Homework Expectations for Room Five

• Homework should be relevant, meaningful, and achievable and based on the things we are currently studying.

• Each week at school your child will write a homework diary. This will identify any homework tasks and record important things going on. This book will need to be checked and initialled by a parent or caregiver each week. If for any reason homework tasks can not be completed please make a brief note in the homework book. A copy of the weekly diary note is also on display in Room Five’s window.

• Each Monday children will receive a list of spelling words that they will need to learn at home for a test each Friday.

• Students are expected to learn and recall basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts. These are tested each term. Please also read the sheet entitled “Facts champions of the World”.

• Children should read for a minimum of 15 minutes each day. This can be a variety of material including the newspaper and books from home as well as books and material from school. A reading log is located at the rear of the Homework Diary. In Room Five certificates are given for children when they read a large variety of books.

• Once or twice a term an optional assignment will be given out.

• If your child would like additional support or extension please contact me directly and I will help develop an individual programme to meet your needs.
