Steyning - by Sid

STEYNING
Stenning was usual enough.
It had a café, a lonely road, a couple of houses and a post office.
It even had a delicious sweet shop.
My brother and I did what kids do,
Bought sweets at the sweet shop,
Relaxed after a long day of working,
Posted letters back home,
Planted plants in the allotment,
Doing nothing much.

Gentle Annie - Huw

Gentle Annie is usual enough, nice views, big waves, sandy beaches nice bed and a huge cabin to come back to in the evening. Me my friends and family do what friends do. Kayak, swim, make sand forts and at the end of the day we go fishing. In the evening we all sit round a big fire look across the sea doing nothing much. -Huw

Tanzania - by Amelia

Tanzania was a special place .
It had Landrovers , Ngorongoro Crater, kind safari tour guides and lots of wildlife roaming the big golden planes. It even had the biggest glowing sun I have ever seen. My sister and I do what kids do, walk around keeping our eye out for elephants , looking through the binoculars at the beautiful wildlife, laughing with the lovely people, wondering about what plant it could be and searching for different types of spices and fruits on the spice farm.
Having the time of my life!

Seaford
Seaford was special.
It had colourful shops, fun parks and a stony beach.
It even had an ice - cream van and a smooth sea.
My brother, sister and I did what kids do.
Eat jelly beans,
Play in the parks,
Painting beautiful pictures
Swimming in the sea and sewing.
Doing nothing much.

In our syndicate our topic is energy and in our class we are learning about matariki. we have been writing explanations on matariki. And as you already know we have made matatriki stars. Here is one of our class room explanation's.

title:ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MATARIKI
In the beggining of June seven stars rise in the eastern sky a couple of weeks later a new full moon appears! This is matariki.
In the olden days when the maori lived here they celebrated matariki this is because it is the maori new year.
This is a good time to fly kites ,do kupa huka and plant tree's. Another thing about matariki is in early June when you look up at the sky to see the seven stars they could be fading or really bright. is they are fading this means is going to be a bad year. if they are really bright you are going to have a good year. matariki is a good time to enjoy your self with your family, and this year in room 5 we celebrated by making seven stars and decorating them with all things about matariki.

matariki stars

In our classroom we have been making matariki stars. Some of the things that we put on them are little eyes subaru (different way to say matariki), happy new year (matariki is the maori new year),wakas, tiki and pictures of us planting trees( a nice way to celebrate matariki. We had lots of fun making them. Mabye you should try it some time. Here is how you make them. first you cut out some stars. Next you choose what you want to decorate your stars with. After you connect your stars to a coat hanger or a stick. as easy as that.
