Homework Policy in Room Five

Homework Expectations for Room Five

• Homework should be relevant, meaningful, and achievable and based on the things we are currently studying.

• Each week at school your child will write a homework diary. This will identify any homework tasks and record important things going on. This book will need to be checked and initialled by a parent or caregiver each week. If for any reason homework tasks can not be completed please make a brief note in the homework book. A copy of the weekly diary note is also on display in Room Five’s window.

• Each Monday children will receive a list of spelling words that they will need to learn at home for a test each Friday.

• Students are expected to learn and recall basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts. These are tested each term. Please also read the sheet entitled “Facts champions of the World”.

• Children should read for a minimum of 15 minutes each day. This can be a variety of material including the newspaper and books from home as well as books and material from school. A reading log is located at the rear of the Homework Diary. In Room Five certificates are given for children when they read a large variety of books.

• Once or twice a term an optional assignment will be given out.

• If your child would like additional support or extension please contact me directly and I will help develop an individual programme to meet your needs.
